My son, Nolan, and I first volunteered for this event 3 years ago as a spur of the moment idea. That evening, the temperatures dropped close to 0 with wind temps brining the temperatures in the negatives. As a father, I worried about his well-being and asked him if he wanted to go home and get warm. He asked me if the people who are homeless get to "go home and get warm." I replied no and he then said, "then we don't go home either." It was a horrible night, worrying about if he was warm enough, worried of the location we were spending the night...just pure worry. I 100% believed that because of the cold, my son would not want to do this again. Instead, he just talked about the reflection he had about how lucky we are and that he is so grateful for the sacrifices my wife and I had to make in order to give him and our family the lives we live. This is now going to be our 3rd year participating and doing our best to raise awareness of homelessness. We are so blessed to have other family and friends joining us along the way.
